This month we’re heading north to Garrison, NY to stroll among green fields and summer’s lush foliage in the Castle Rock Unique Area of Hudson Highlands State Park. Along the way, we’ll catch glimpses of a Castle Rock, a historic mansion built in 1881 by William Osborn, one-time president of the Illinois Central Railroad, who fell in love with the natural beauty of the region and bought the whole mountain and surrounding lands to use for his weekend home. Other highlights include passing by a pond, snack breaks in a gazebo and views of the Hudson Valley, West Point and Storm King.
Hike is limited to 15 participants. Please sign up below. Girl Gotta Hike is a women’s group. While we appreciate all encouraging and supportive souls as friends and partners, this hike is for the ladies.
Transportation details: For those arriving by Metro-North Hudson Line, meet at the south end of the Garrison Train Station by 9:15AM. The 7:45AM train out of Grand Central is due to arrive in Garrison at 9:03AM and we’ll give everyone a few minutes to get settled before we begin the hike. For those wanting to carpool, you can either park near the Train Station and begin the hike from there, or you can park at the Castle Rock Unique Area Parking and wait there for those walking up from the train. We will leave the Castle Rock parking area around 9:45AM. GPS coordinates: 41º 22.216’N, 73º 56.700’W.
Bad Weather Policy: Most hikes will go on rain or shine. However, in the case of extreme weather such as lightning or high winds, I promise to keep you safe and re-schedule the hike for a later date.
