GIRL GOTTA HIKE PUBLIC TRANSIT SERIES #1
The Girl Gotta Hike Public Transit Series is a free, once-monthly guided hike that is easily accessed by train or by bus from NYC. Get out of the city and into the woods without having to drive!
* Originally this was planned for last weekend -- but it was raining, so we're making up for it this weekend! *
Where: Garrison, NY
When: Saturday, June 30th, 10:15 AM
Distance: 5.2 miles
Estimated Hiking Time: 4 hours (including lunch break)
Cost: Free to hike; $29 off-peak round-trip train ticket on MetroNorth; carpooling also encouraged
This month we’re heading north to Garrison, NY to stroll among green fields and summer’s lush foliage in the Castle Rock Unique Area of Hudson Highlands State Park. Along the way, we’ll catch glimpses of Castle Rock, a historic mansion built in 1881 by William Osborn, a railroad magnate. Then we'll head uphill to a rock outcropping dotted with prickly-pear cactus, rather unusual for the north-east. Other highlights include ponds, gazebos and views of the Hudson Valley, West Point and the Bear Mountain Bridge.
Hike is limited to 15 participants. Please sign up below. Girl Gotta Hike is a women’s group. While we appreciate all encouraging and supportive souls as friends and partners, this hike is just for the ladies.
Transportation details: Meet at the south end of the Garrison Train Station by 10:15AM. The 8:45AM train out of Grand Central is due to arrive in Garrison at 10:03AM and we’ll give everyone a few minutes to get settled before we begin the hike. For those wanting to carpool, you can park at the Train Station for a mere $3.50. Barring a massively good time, I'll have you back to the station to catch the 2:20 back to Grand Central.
Bad Weather Policy: Most hikes will go on rain or shine. However, in the case of extreme weather such as lightning or high winds, I promise to keep you safe and re-schedule the hike for a later date.
