Come on over to Gowanus, Brooklyn on Saturday, March 30th for the 1st Annual Escape From New York Fair, a day-long event for outdoorsy and wanna-be outdoorsy adventure types! The fair is being hosted by bicycle and adventure shop 718 Cyclery / Mighty Hatchet and you can stop in for seminars, presentations and free classes from local small businesses (like myself), nonprofits and travel destinations who are all working to help get NYC folks out and about both within and beyond the 5 Boroughs.
I’ll be leading a hands-on demo of what to pack and how to plan for for a multi-day / long-distance backpacking trip. I’ll show you a few different styles of backpacks (and all the stuff that goes inside) from external frame to internal to ultra-light and discuss the differences and considerations between them as well as how to pack them for the long-haul.
I’ll also be on hand to talk about the Girl Gotta Hike Public Transit day hiking series, where we go, what to bring and considerations for how to plan for a relatively nearby day hike or overnight.
