New York and New Jersey women hikers rejoice! In the late 1800’s, the NJ Federation of Women’s Groups fought diligently and played a key role in saving the Palisades Cliffs from the threat of quarries and construction of the post-Civil War boom. For the September Public Transit Series, we’re heading to the Palisades Interstate Park where we’ll walk along the trails that wouldn’t even be here if it wasn’t for those those visionary ladies! We’ll visit a monument in their honor, cross and re-cross the NY/NJ border and traverse the aptly named Giant Stairs, a rock scramble alongside the Hudson River. To top it all off, we’ll be back in Manhattan by the late afternoon – cuz us women really can do it all!
Hike is limited to 15 participants. Please sign up below. Girl Gotta Hike is a women’s group. While we appreciate all encouraging and supportive souls as friends and partners, this hike is just for the ladies.
Transportation details: We’ll be taking an 8:15 am Coach USA bus out of The Port Authority Bus Terminal and either a 3 or 4pm bus back to Manhattan depending on how long we feel like hanging cliffside beside the Hudson. (I know, I know, the bus isn’t my fave mode of transport either. But it gets us right where we want to go!) Specific bus information will be sent via email upon signup. Please note that all bus tickets must be purchased at the station. If you have a car and feel like driving, please let me know ahead of time and I will try to match you with other wannabe carpoolers. If you’re taking the bus, do arrive early!
Bad Weather Policy: Most hikes will go on rain or shine. However, in the case of extreme weather such super heavy rain, lightning or high winds, I promise to keep you safe and re-schedule the hike for a later date.
