Seeking some nature, confidence and camaraderie? Spend a night in the backcountry with Girl Gotta Hike! Join us on July 6th and 7th for a women’s-only, small group hiking and camping experience in Harriman State Park. We’ll hike a section of the iconic Appalachian Trail, visit the famous Lemon-Squeezer and camp out near a historic stone shelter built by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the 1930’s, enjoying views along the way.
With over 3,000 miles of backpacking under her belt, including the Appalachian Trail, hike leader and founder of Girl Gotta Hike, Melissa Goodwin, will guide a small group of 4 for a moderate hike and overnight in Harriman. She’ll teach the basics of backpacking along the way, encouraging participants to assist with camp chores and proper leave-no-trace practices. Backpacking gear including packs, tents and sleeping bags as well as meals and transportation are included. Vegetarian, vegan and other dietary options available.
Since the early 1900’s, busy New Yorkers have been heading to the hills of Harriman State Park for some solace and respite from the big city. While not too far away, sections of the park are so quiet, you’d find it hard to believe you’re in commuter distance of NYC. It’s loaded with all types of terrain and is the perfect training ground for those new to hiking and camping or for those who don’t want to feel so far removed for their first trek.
